Since arriving at VA Tech, Hendricks and his students have generated research and published papers in aquatic ecology and water quality monitoring, with special attention to aquatic insects and toxicity studies. He has taught Principles of Biology, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology.

Hendricks officially retired in 2002.
